Someone Knows Tomorrow, but I Don’t Know Who Episode 1

Season 1 · Episode 1

The Voice Note

Jayden Cole knew something was wrong when his phone started ringing at 6:17 in the morning.

Not because his phone ever rang that early.

Because the caller was himself.

He stared at the screen from underneath his blanket.

Incoming Call
Jayden Cole

For a few seconds, he just watched it vibrate.

Then he answered.

“Hello?”

Nothing.

“Hello?”

A faint crackle came through the speaker.

Then silence.

Jayden sat up.

“Who is this?”

The call ended.

He looked at the screen.

Call duration: 17 seconds.

Jayden frowned.

He checked his contacts.

His own number was saved as Me.

He tapped it.

Same number.

Same phone.

Same everything.

“That’s weird.”

His bedroom door opened.

“Jayden?”

He quickly locked his phone.

His mother stood in the doorway, already dressed for work.

“You’re awake?”

“Unfortunately.”

She gave him a tired look.

“You have school.”

“I know.”

“You said that yesterday.”

“And I was right yesterday too.”

“Get up.”

She closed the door.

Jayden threw his phone onto the bed.

He was about to get up when it vibrated again.

This time, it wasn’t a call.

It was a notification.

Voice message received.

Jayden picked it up.

The sender made his stomach tighten.

Jayden Cole.

He stared at it.

There was one voice message.

17 seconds long.

He pressed play.

Static.

Then his own voice.

Quiet.

Breathing hard.

“Jayden, listen to me.”

Jayden froze.

The recording continued.

“Whatever happens tonight…”

A pause.

His voice sounded terrified.

“Don’t let Mom answer the door.”

The recording ended.

Jayden didn’t move.

He played it again.

Same voice.

Same words.

Same frightened breathing.

He checked the timestamp.

September 14, 2026. 11:43 PM.

Jayden looked at the date on his phone.

September 11, 2026.

His heart started beating faster.

Three days.

The message had been sent three days in the future.

“Jayden!”

He nearly dropped the phone.

His mother’s voice came from downstairs.

“Coming!”

He shoved the phone into his pocket and ran downstairs.

Maya was standing in the kitchen, holding a mug of coffee.

“You’re late.”

“I’m not late.”

“You’re still wearing pajamas.”

“That’s because I’m going to change.”

She stared at him.

“Are you okay?”

Jayden paused.

“Yeah.”

“You look strange.”

“I just woke up.”

“You’ve been awake for twenty minutes.”

“How do you know that?”

“You’ve been walking around upstairs.”

Jayden grabbed a piece of toast.

His mother watched him.

“School?”

“Yeah.”

“Bus?”

“Yeah.”

“Homework?”

“Mostly.”

“You did the history assignment?”

Jayden stopped chewing.

“Yeah.”

Maya raised an eyebrow.

“You didn’t.”

“I did.”

“You asked me last night what the assignment was.”

“That was research.”

She shook her head.

“Go get dressed.”

Jayden nodded.

He started toward the stairs.

Then stopped.

“Mom?”

“Hmm?”

“If someone came to the house tonight…”

She looked up.

“Who?”

“I don’t know. Just someone.”

“What about them?”

“Would you open the door?”

Her expression changed.

Only for a second.

But Jayden noticed.

“Why are you asking?”

“No reason.”

Maya put her mug down.

“If someone comes to the house, you don’t open the door unless you know who it is.”

“Okay.”

“And neither do I.”

Jayden stared at her.

“Seriously?”

“Seriously.”

Something about the way she said it made him uncomfortable.

Then she picked up her coffee again.

“Now go.”

By lunch, Jayden had listened to the voice note eleven times.

He hadn’t told anyone.

Not even Marcus.

Especially not Marcus.

Because Marcus would either laugh at him or become obsessed with it.

Probably both.

Jayden sat at the back of the school cafeteria, staring at his phone.

He opened the message details again.

The file wasn’t forwarded.

It wasn’t downloaded.

It wasn’t from an unknown number.

It was directly attached to his own account.

Jayden opened his phone settings.

Nothing.

He checked his cloud account.

Nothing.

He checked his messages.

Nothing.

Then he noticed something he’d missed.

The voice note had a filename.

Not the usual random string of numbers.

It said:

DO_NOT_TRUST_THE_DOOR.m4a

Jayden’s thumb stopped moving.

“Bro.”

He nearly jumped.

Marcus dropped into the seat opposite him.

“You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”

Jayden locked his phone.

“Didn’t sleep.”

Marcus opened a packet of chips.

“Again?”

“Yeah.”

“You’ve been watching those stupid conspiracy videos?”

“No.”

“Aliens?”

“No.”

“Ghosts?”

“No.”

“Secret government experiments?”

Jayden stared at him.

“Why would you say that?”

Marcus shrugged.

“You have the face.”

“What face?”

“The face you make when your brain is doing something stupid.”

Jayden almost smiled.

Then his phone vibrated.

Both of them looked down.

Another notification.

Jayden’s smile disappeared.

New voice message.

Marcus noticed.

“Who’s that?”

Jayden turned the screen away.

“My mum.”

“At school?”

“Yeah.”

“Why’s your mum sending voice notes?”

“She does that.”

“No, she doesn’t.”

Jayden put the phone in his pocket.

Marcus narrowed his eyes.

“You’re hiding something.”

“I’m not.”

“You definitely are.”

The bell rang.

Jayden stood.

“Later.”

Marcus grabbed his backpack.

“I’m finding out.”

“Good luck.”

The second voice note was shorter.

Jayden waited until he was alone in the bathroom before playing it.

Static.

Then his voice.

This time, it was whispering.

“It’s already started.”

Jayden swallowed.

The recording continued.

“Don’t tell Marcus.”

Then silence.

Jayden stared at the phone.

Three seconds passed.

Then another message appeared.

Message deleted.

Jayden’s eyes widened.

He hadn’t deleted it.

The voice note disappeared.

He checked his phone again.

Nothing.

Then another notification appeared.

Battery: 13%

Jayden frowned.

His phone had been at 78% when he left home.

He opened the battery settings.

The voice recording app had used 64% of his battery.

For a recording that lasted eight seconds.

He stared at the screen.

Then his phone buzzed again.

A text message.

From his own number.

11:43 PM.

That was all it said.

When Jayden got home that afternoon, his mother wasn’t there.

He checked the kitchen.

Empty.

Living room.

Empty.

“Mom?”

Nothing.

He walked upstairs.

His bedroom door was open.

He was certain he’d closed it that morning.

He stepped inside.

His phone was sitting on his desk.

He had left it in his pocket.

Jayden slowly approached it.

On the screen was a video.

Already playing.

The video showed his bedroom.

His bedroom exactly as it looked now.

His desk.

His chair.

His bed.

His window.

Jayden stared at the screen.

Then he looked around the room.

Everything matched.

The video timestamp read:

11:41 PM.

Jayden’s breathing stopped.

He checked the current time.

4:26 PM.

He looked back at the video.

Someone was standing behind the camera.

He couldn’t see their face.

But he could hear them breathing.

Slowly.

Jayden backed away from the phone.

The video continued.

Then the camera moved toward the bedroom door.

The person behind it whispered:

“Two minutes.”

The video ended.

Jayden’s phone went black.

He stood completely still.

Then he heard the front door downstairs open.

“Jayden?”

His mother.

He ran downstairs.

Maya stood in the hallway holding two grocery bags.

“What happened?”

Jayden stared at her.

“You’re home.”

“Yes?”

“I thought you weren’t.”

She frowned.

“I just got home.”

Jayden glanced at the clock.

4:29 PM.

“Mom…”

“What?”

He wanted to tell her.

Everything.

The calls.

The messages.

The video.

The voice.

Instead, he asked:

“Did you tell anyone I was going to be home today?”

Maya’s expression changed.

“No.”

“Are you sure?”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

“Because you normally aren’t.”

Jayden looked toward the front door.

Then back at her.

“Don’t answer the door tonight.”

Maya stared at him.

“What?”

“Just don’t.”

“Jayden, what’s going on?”

“I can’t explain.”

“Then try.”

Before he could answer, there was a knock.

Three slow knocks.

Knock.

Knock.

Knock.

Jayden froze.

Maya looked at the door.

Then at him.

Neither of them moved.

A fourth knock came.

Knock.

Maya whispered:

“Are you expecting someone?”

Jayden shook his head.

“No.”

Another knock.

He pulled out his phone.

His hands were shaking.

The screen lit up.

New voice message.

Sender:

Jayden Cole.

Timestamp:

11:43 PM. September 14, 2026.

Jayden pressed play.

His own voice whispered:

“Jayden…”

A pause.

Then:

“You’re too late.”

The voice note ended.

At the exact same moment, someone outside the house spoke.

“Jayden?”

He looked at his mother.

Because he recognized the voice.

It was his own.

Then the person outside knocked again.

And said:

“Open the door.”
